 Northern Counties Championship 2011
Thirty two of the top Junior golfers from the South of Scotland, Northumberland, Cumbria and Durham assembled at Seascale Golf Club to compete for the 2011 Northern Counties Championship.
The South of Scotland's Danny McConnachie was the only of two players to beat par in the morning round with a two under 69, Cumbria's Kieran Waters (70), Ryan Pearson (71) and Liam Johnston from the South (72) were close behind ready to pounce.
Liam was an early starter in the afternoon round and came home with a one under par 70 to post a 142 total (Level Par), Waters and Pearson could not repeat their good morning rounds and slipped down the field and unfortunately so did McConnachie to tie for fourth place and leave Liam the 2011 Champion by 4 shots.
A proud Liam who played steady golf in both rounds joins another South of Scotland name on the Trophy, Kyle McClung was the 2008 Champion and like Kyle, Liam will be heading to America next month, the South of Scotland Juniors wish him the best of luck in his venture.
The South also picked up the 2010 NCF League Champions Salver and Danny also received the Trophy for the best morning round.

South of Scotland win to break jinx

A strong Northumberland Junior Team headed by Jack Hermiston (English Under 16 Open Champion and Runner Up in the Scottish Under 16 Open Championship) arrived at the Dumfries and County Golf Club to play the South of Scotland in their Northern Counties League Match recently.
The South of Scotland fielded 5 players Under the age of 16 with Portpatricks Matthew McCulloch the youngest at 13, although they had won twice away from home they have never won against Northumberland on Scottish soil.
Matthew was paired with Dumfries and County’s Darren Brown in the morning foursome and done well to come back from 3 down after 6 holes to record a 2 up victory.
They were joined in the winners enclosure by Jordan Brown and 15 year old Robert Hughan - (1 up)
John Innes and Brandon Burgess (2 down) along with Connor Syme and Connor Bennewith (1 down) lost their matches at the last hole for the players to go to lunch all square at 2 matches each.
In the top afternoon match Hermiston showed his class by birdying 3 of the first 4 holes against Jordan Brown who hung well before finally being edged out.
Northumberland then went further ahead when Brandon Burgess and Connor Bennewith lost their matches.
The South retaliated with fine wins from Connor Syme (5/4) and Robert Hughan (4/3) before the youngsters Brown (1 Uup) and McCulloch (5/4) took the South to an unbeatable position with 6 wins on the board.
The experienced John Innes came from behind to tie his match and give the South victory by 6½ matches - 5½
